HOPEWELL, Va. ( WWBT /Gray News) - Two children were taken to the hospital after a school bus crashed into a home Monday morning in Virginia.

According to police, four children and the driver were on the bus when it crashed just before 8:15 a.m.

Anthony Montanye said he saw the scene from right across the street.

“I was right there bringing my dogs in when it happened. ‘Boom!’ I went, ‘Woah’ and I look and ‘Boom, boom, boom, boom,’” he said.

The bus took out the neighbor’s mailbox and a maple tree. Part of it was still wedged between the house and the bus hood. The bus’s windshield was also shattered.

“I went over and saw the bus underneath the house,” said neighbor Dorothy Hood. “It was kind of shocking when we pulled in and couldn’t figure out what was going on when we saw the crime scene tape.”

Police believe wet roads contributed to the crash.

Police could not confirm whether someone was in the house during the crash, however, neighbors said that no one lived there and that the owner had just finished renovations to sell it.

Police said the crash is still under investigation, and no one has been charged.
