Next weekend, the 2020 Dion Snowshoes U.S National Snowshoe Championships will be held at the highest altitude ever—in Leadville, Colorado. Leadville sits at 10,152 feet above sea level and holds the title of being the highest incorporated city in North America.
The snowshoeing competition will take over Leadville from February 28 through March 1. Hosted by Colorado Mountain College, the event will have the opportunity for spectators to come and cheer on the racers, as well as participate in a citizen’s 5K run/walk event.
Competitive events include a middle/high school 5K for the first time, as well as the first-ever Collegiate 5K and 10K. In addition to the events awarded in the youth, high school, and under-20 categories, senior 10K elite championship events (ages 20 and over) will be held. The course will be set up across the Colorado Mountain College Leadville campus on a Nordic trail system.
There's expected to be quite the gathering of runners and snowshoes from all over the country who will be participating and competing throughout the weekend. You can check out the event webpage for all the details and schedule.
