Human remains have been "tentatively identified" as missing 11-year-old Colorado Springs boy. His stepmother awaits trial for his murder.

The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office announced earlier today that the remains of missing Colorado Springs boy Gannon Stauch have been located and “tentatively identified."

Gannon, 11, went missing in late January, an incident that was reported by his stepmother, Leticia Stauch, who was arrested earlier this month and faces first-degree murder, among other charges, in connection with the child’s disappearance.

There is a gag order in effect for the case and specific details cannot be released, however, the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office was able to announce via social media that the remains had been located in Pace, Florida, which is near Pensacola. The body was found on March 18.

A medical examiner in Florida has “tentatively identified” the remains as those of Gannon Stauch. There is still no information as to how Gannon died, or how he ended up in all the way in Florida.

The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office is asking anyone who may have information about Leticia Stauch being in Florida between February 3–5, 2020, to call their tip line at (719)-520-6666 or email [email protected]. The department extended thanks to the Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office in Florida for their assistance and work on the case. They also extended their condolences and deepest sympathies to Gannon’s family and friends.

Leticia Stauch had maintained her innocence until her arrest in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, on March 2. She has since been extradited and is incarcerated in Colorado, awaiting trial. She faces charges of murder in the first degree of a child under 12 in a position of trust, child abuse resulting in death, tampering with physical evidence, and tampering with a deceased human body. The discovery of Gannon’s remains will hopefully aid investigators in determining what exactly happened to Gannon.

We extend our condolences to Gannon’s family, as well. We hope that the finding of his remains will bring them some peace.
