Locals should brace themselves for a barrage of precipitation, as rain has been pegged to be light to moderate but efficient, driven by precipitable water values rising east of Interstate 81. A Flood Watch has been put in place for much of the area, warning that "locations which are under heavier rain elements the longest and have seen more rain recently will have a greater chance of seeing some localized flooding, particularly along the eastern slopes of the mountains due to upslope lift. Release your umbrellas and rain boots – gusty conditions in the 20-30 mph range are also on the cards.

In the upper forecast, Wednesday brings the low-level jet's slow departure and a likely reduction in showers moving towards the northeast overnight. For those expecting a respite, hope hinges on a dry slot that could bring some lighter showers or a possible cessation altogether in southwestern areas. But keep one eye on the sky. There remains a risk for marginal severe weather due to thunderstorms, potentially impacting central Virginia and the central Shenandoah Valley by mid to late afternoon.

Baltimore's weather will stay on its toes through the end of the week, too. With an upper-level low and associated surface low tracking across the Great Lakes by Friday, local folks can expect another round of showers and thunderstorms to usher in the weekend. The latter might be strong, given "deep layer shear and instability will support a severe thunderstorm risk Friday afternoon and at night," as the National Weather Service mentioned.

Meanwhile, mariners should be alert on the aquatic front as Small Craft Advisories have been issued across various zones. The expected increase in winds warrants a heads-up, with Special Marine Warnings potentially necessary. To round out the advisory buffet, coastal areas should keep an eye out for possible minor tidal flooding around midweek's high tides, as the onshore flow amplifies anomalies.

Despite the stormy days ahead, Baltimoreans can look forward to Sunday, which promises higher temperatures in the upper 70s to lower 80s and more agreeable humidity levels, hinting at a much-deserved break in the unsettled weather pattern.
