A local security guard doing his job at an Aurora supermarket found himself on the receiving end of a brutal beating just a few days ago and the suspect has not yet been caught.

The King Soopers grocery store located at 15250 East Mississippi near Chambers Road employs security guards to keep the store and area around it safe, as do many other businesses in the area. On Sunday, October 6, around 11 p.m., an on-duty security officer noticed a man wearing a dark hood who appeared to be shoplifting. The officer followed the man outside where he attempted to prevent the theft, however, he did not get far before the man viciously attacked him.

The security officer was left unconscious in the parking lot after being kicked in the face so hard that a footprint was left behind. The attacker only stopped when a bystander stepped in. The security guard suffered serious injuries and is still recovering.

Crystal McCoy, an Aurora Police Department spokesman, shared how seriously the department is taking the assault:

"We can’t let this happen to our security officers," McCoy said. "Not in our community, not at our grocery stores. This is completely unacceptable."

McCoy also thanked the person who stepped in to stop the assault on behalf of the guard, his family, and the police department.

The Aurora Police Department has a description of the suspect thanks to video footage. The man has been described as a possibly Asian adult male about six feet tall, who was wearing dark-rimmed glasses and had a mustache at the time of the attack. The Aurora Police Department shared the video and suspect’s description in a tweet. If you choose to watch the footage, please be advised it's a violent and graphic scene.

A significant cash reward has been offered for information leading to the arrest of this individual. The total amount for the reward has been increased from $9,000 to $10,000. Anyone with information is asked to call Agent Anthony Green at (303)-739-6382 as soon as possible.

We share the sentiment that this is unacceptable in our community, and are thankful the security guard was not killed. We also extend thanks to the good Samaritan who chose to take action to stop the beating and are thankful they escaped without harm. Please share your words of support for guard and the good Samaritan in the comments.
