The Tampa Bay Buccaneers wasted no time on Monday in re-signing Delaware native Chris Godwin to ensure their offense had all its key pieces returning in 2025. After several seasons of contract talks and franchise tags, the team agreed to terms with Godwin on a three-year, $66 million deal, with the first two years being fully guaranteed. Despite Godwin's big pay raise, an NFL Insider reported that the former Middletown and Penn State star turned down more money elsewhere just so he could return to Tampa Bay. While appearing on The Pat McAfee Show during the first day of free agency, NFL Insider Ian Rapoport discussed how Chris Godwin had a big market for himself. Rapoport shared that, "From my understanding, Chris Godwin left about $20M on the table. I know New England was in on him pretty heavy. . .he clearly liked where he was in Tampa Bay." Hearing New England was all in on Godwin makes sense. They have a hole in their receiving corps that needs to be filled, and he would have been perfect. While this is the Patriots loss, it is the Bucs and Baker Mayfield's gain. While the Patriots try to figure out what they can do to help their quarterback, the Bucs will be giving Mayfield Mike Evans, Jalen McMillan, and Chris Godwin.
