It's Up in the Air

The 416 Fire, started June 1, continues to burn 13 miles north of Durango. So far the fire has burned 34,161 acres and remains 30 percent contained, at least according to the United States Forest Service. Residents have been authorized to return to their homes and businesses in Hermosa, however, the fire's destruction continues to affect residents of nearby communities. After all, ash has darkened the Animas River and air quality is in question, so much so that Durango's Concerts @ The Park could be moved indoors.
“The 416 Fire is economically impacting our community, and many individuals have been furloughed,” said Beth Drum, the senior vice president of Alpine Bank of Durango. If that's the case, the shows will be moved from its original location in Buckley Park at 1200 Main Ave. to the Community Concert Hall at Fort Lewis College. Concerts are held on Thursdays, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Updates regarding the concert can be found on the Concert Hall's Facebook page or website. And if you want to offer a helping hand, Alpine Bank will be at the concert organizing relief efforts for those affected by the fire via the Community Emergency Relief Fund. “The Community Emergency Relief Fund was established specifically for this purpose, to help those who have lost their jobs and provide them with temporary financial assistance for basic essentials. We at Alpine Bank invite those who join us at ‘Concerts @ The Park’ to contribute to the fund and help your impacted friends and neighbors" says Drum. What are your thoughts?
