The Broncos may pull over to pick up a hitch-hiking Tony Romo.

Based on what we saw last season, it’s very possible that last year was Tony Romo’s last season with “America’s team.” Dak Prescott has Cowboys management and fans sold that he’s the next cowboy to ride, and I’m a believer, but there is something to be said for veteran leadership. [caption id="attachment_9847" align="alignnone" width="525"]Romo (Photo by Ronald Martinez/Getty Images)[/caption] I’m sure that plenty of us agree that half of why we loved Peyton was because he was like having an extra offensive coordinator on the field. But like most jobs, this type of experience doesn’t come cheap. If Romo wants to play in Denver he’s got to leave his Texas-sized paycheck behind. According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, “[Denver is] clearly in the driver’s seat in the potential Tony Romo free agent sweepstakes.” He followed that by adding Romo would need to take a pay cut from his 14 million dollar base salary he will be receiving in 2017.
However, due to salary cap, nothing will be happening until March when free agency opens. Yet the Cowboys management have been alluding to his release, albeit on good terms. Romo and Jerry Jones are notably close, and despite our own short term memory loss, Romo is the franchise leader in passing yards, touchdowns, and is a 4 time pro-bowler. Now at 37, Romo has a few options, including the Texans, but if he’s anything like Elway he wants to win a Super Bowl. And we all know the Broncos give him the best shot at doing that. After all, we threw Peyton Manning quite the retirement party. It could be an interesting year for the Broncos. There’s no doubt, the race is definitely on, and Elway has not forgotten Trevor Siemian. He’s young and as cool as the snow capped peaks of the Rockies, and very much on track to start the 2017 NFL season. Could Elway be trying to spur some healthy competition or is he trying to check Siemian’s nerves? Do you think that Romo could suit up in blue and orange? What are your thoughts Broncos fans?
