The Empty Bowls Project 2025 is next week

ALEXANDRIA — The bowls might be empty but stomachs certainly won’t be.

Alexandria Area High School’s Empty Bowls Project, in its 12th year, will, for the first time, present food donated by local restaurants. For $5 you can have a soup or chili meal; for $10, a soup or chili meal and a bowl made by the pottery class.

The Empty Bowls Project raises money for Outreach Food Shelf, the United Way’s Backpack Attack program, the Alexandria Area High School food shelf, and the Discovery Middle School food shelf. Last year they raised around $7,000.

In addition to bowls on display by talented students, an art exhibit is up showcasing the work of all kinds of talented AAHS students. The event also features an art exhibition, silent auction, and live entertainment, so in many ways, it’s a hybrid of community fundraiser and arts-and-crafts fair.

The Empty Bowls Project is Thursday, March 20 from 5 to 7 p.m. at AAHS Commons.

It’s organized in part by CAPS students, (Center for Advanced Professional Studies). The CAPS class is aimed towards professions in human service career paths.
