KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - We are tracking impactful weather today and tomorrow. We continue our FIRST WARN for storms, possibly severe, this evening. The risk for severe weather is 2 on a scale from 1 to 5. We issued a FIRST WARN WEATHER DAY, our top alert, for Monday. The risk for severe weather increases to a 3 out of 5, along with heavy rain creating localized flooding.
SUNDAY
MORNING: Our morning begins with leftover clouds from last night’s storms and temperatures in the mid-50s. The clouds exit east quickly, allowing sunshine to take over. AFTERNOON: Mostly sunny then partly cloudy with highs near 80°. Our afternoon becomes breezy. SE 10-15mph gusting 30mph, and humid. EVENING: Today’s FIRST WARN covers our chance for strong to severe storms this evening. Current data points toward a medium risk for damaging winds and large hail with a low risk for tornadoes. For Kansas City, the window for storms is open from 8 p.m. to midnight. MONDAY: FIRST WARN WEATHER DAY
A chance for light showers hangs around most of the day before our big event begins. Gusty winds continue and with warmer highs in the middle 80s. Storms could pop early in the afternoon. Afternoon storms contain the best chance of producing damaging winds (+70 mph), large hail (2″) and a few tornadoes. More storms develop later in the evening with a chance for damaging winds and hail. The severe threat is lower with these storms. You may experience several storms throughout the evening and overnight. Heavy rain, 2″-3″, will cause localized flooding. This is a day to remain informed.
