Annuals Garden inspired by Game of Thrones now open at Denver's Botanic Gardens.

Game of Thrones may be over, but that does not mean that the love for the show is over. In fact, the Denver Botanic Gardens has created a tribute, of sorts, to the beloved show.

A binge-watching fan of Thrones, horticulturist Bridget Blomquist designed the gardens while watching the show, then abandoned the idea in fear that the garden may offend fans or seem gimmicky because she was pairing bright floral designs with some of the darker elements.

Blomquist was re-inspired by a visit to the Denver Art Museum’s Christian Dior exhibition when she realized that some of the names of dress designs were obvious, others not so clear, and that the name itself added another layer to the art and was part of her creative process.

She went back to her Game of Thrones plans, realizing the gardens themselves are an expression of art, and that they reflect her inspiration.

“The names provided something additional to ponder and more significance to each design. I decided right then and there that I will always name my garden designs as they, too, are pieces of art. It no longer mattered what others thought because it is an important and fun part of my creative process. I pulled parallels of the plant colors, textures and moods from settings, objects, language, battles, and characters of the 'Game of Thrones' world, ” wrote Bridget Blomquist on her blog.

Blomquist details each garden and what her specific inspiration to the show was on her blog, and you can always visit the gardens for yourself. With names like Fire and Ice, Khaleesi, Drakarys, Milk of the Poppy, The Rains of Castamere, The Wall, Weirwood, Red Wedding, and Wildling, Dorne and Highgarden, these designs are sure to intrigue fans of the show.

As the summer progresses, the beds and flowers will mature and Blomquist’s full vision will come to life. This is truly a unique way to honor the show and a beautiful way to show one’s inspiration and connection to the Thrones world.
