Moose defeat Blizzard in double overtime to win Fraser Cup Western division semifinal series
ALEXANDRIA — Defense defined the Fraser Cup western division semifinal series between the Alexandria Blizzard and Minnesota Moose. The teams split a pair of 1-0 games in the first two games as Alexandria won game one on Friday in Alexandria and Minnesota won game two in Blaine. This set a winner-take-all game three on Sunday in Alexandria and for a while, it looked like this game would end the same as the previous two. An Eli Fletcher goal off assists from Ashton Collings and Dillian Smidt gave the Blizzard a 1-0 goal with 14:06 left in the second period. As the clock nearly struck midnight on the Moose’s season, Sam Knight scored the game-tying goal off of assists from Ryan Andor and Kaden Miles with 1:44 left in regulation, forcing overtime. After no team scored in the first overtime, a Will Burnevik goal off an assist from Cadyn Campbell and Reid Watson six minutes into the second overtime period gave the Moose a 2-1 win and punched their ticket to the NA3HL Fraser Cup Western division finals to face the Granite City Lumberjacks. The Moose had a 39-36 shot on goal advantage in Sunday’s game at the Runestone Community Center in Alexandria.
