W hile there is no doubting Patrick Mahomes will be the starting quarterback for the Kansas City Chiefs next season and for many seasons to come, that hasn't stopped them from bolstering their depth behind him. According to Tom Pelissero of the NFL Network, the Chiefs are signing former New England Patriots and Cleveland Browns quarterback Bailey Zappe to a one-year contract. The 25-year-old was drafted by the Patriots in the fourth round of the 2022 NFL Draft out of Western Kentucky. Despite signing a four-year, $4.3 million contract with New England, the AFC East side waived Zappe in the second year of that deal. From there he jumped between the practice squad and the active roster before later being released. Zappe then signed with the Chiefs' practice squad, only for the Browns to sign him, waive him and then re-sign him to the active roster. Zappe made one start for the Browns last season, completing 16 of 31 passes for 170 yards, a touchdown and two interceptions.
