SAINT MARY'S COUNTY, Md. (7News) — A 20-year-old man was caught with a ghost gun during a traffic stop on Monday in Maryland, according to the St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office.

The man was caught when deputies initiated a stop on a white 2011 Kia Forte traveling on Great Mills Road for operating without brake lights, officials said.

During the stop, deputies identified Pernell Maddox, who was a passenger in the car and is known to law enforcement, officials said.

Police searched Maddox and found a loaded, unserialized handgun in the waistband of his pants, officials said.

Maddox was taken into custody and was charged with multiple firearm-related offenses, officials said.

Maddox was taken to the St. Mary’s County Detention and Rehabilitation Center, where he is being held without bond.
