Vein disease is more than cosmetic.
Like most medical afflictions, vein disease comes in a variety of forms, and it affects everyone differently. For some, the effects are mainly cosmetic; for others, it's pain or swelling -- and more often than not, everyone will have some degree of both. However, most vein treatments are categorized into either medical or cosmetic, and they're both two very different forms of treatment. In fact, many suffering from vein disease often treat the cosmetic aspect thinking that it will help with the pain and swelling when in fact the underlying cause requires medical treatment.
So what are the main differences between cosmetic and medical vein treatment?
Cosmetic treatment is often sought for people with spider veins. While they can be irritating, or less than desirable to look at, this inherited condition usually does not pose a serious medical threat or really hinder you from your day-to-day activities. The good news is, however, there's still a way to effectively treat them, and if that helps you feel more comfortable wearing what you want to wear, then it's worth it!
Medical treatment, on the other hand, is required for more serious vein issues that could also have a cosmetic element. Varicose veins, for example, look uncomfortable, and they are. Pressure builds up in areas that it shouldn't, causing pain, and it requires a medical professional to help. Oftentimes, vein disease can be debilitating, in which case a physician should be consulted.

However, it should also be noted that not all medical treatments are invasive, and advancements in medical technology have made medical vein treatments easier, meaning it might be unclear whether or not a form of treatment is effective from a medical or cosmetic standpoint. As always, it's best to start with a medical professional. That way you can be sure you're going about things in the healthiest, most effective, way possible.
What are your thoughts, people? Do you know someone who didn't realize that their vein issues were more than cosmetic?
