The search for a new coach is already underway.
It was announced on Wednesday, December 4, that Mike Bobo and the Colorado State University Football program will be parting ways. Bobo and CSU have reached a "mutually agreed to separation agreement", according to CSU. The move comes after a second straight losing season for the Rams.
Joe Parker, CSU Director of Athletics, gave this statement:
"I would like to thank Mike Bobo for his professionalism, commitment, and efforts in leading our football program for the past five seasons. He has devoted an innumerable amount of energy to moving Colorado State football forward and fulfilled his promises to developing our student-athletes in every dimension. Mike is an incredible mentor and truly cares about the holistic growth of young people through the sport of football. I'm grateful for Mike's contributions to our program and have a deep respect for his personal integrity. We wish Mike well in all his future endeavors. He will always be a Stalwart Ram."
Bobo will be paid $5.5 million in three installments over the next two years to buy out his contract. He is seeking other opportunities in professional coaching and gave a very positive statement regarding his separation from the CSU program:
"Unfortunately, the results the last couple of seasons have not been what we wanted. I can assure you this was not a reflection of the commitment and hard work that we all put into the program the last five years. Our players and coaches never quit and fought through the final whistle against Boise State. I am so proud of this entire team and staff for their incredible resolve. I leave Colorado State grateful for the opportunity.”
Bobo, the 22nd head coach of the team, has been with the Rams for five seasons and ends his run at 28-35. Bobo did lead the team to Bowl games during those first three seasons, but they each ended as a loss. Since his arrival, the program has gone downhill, with the last two seasons showing more L than W.
The search for the next coach for the CSU football team is underway, with qualified candidates already being considered. Parker met with the players on Wednesday to inform them of the coaching changes.
