If you have followed high school basketball in the Kansas City metro area over the past several years, you'll recognize many familiar faces in the first-round game between the Missouri Tigers and Drake Bulldogs in Wichita. Both teams feature significant talent that played high school hoops in Kansas City. Mark Mitchell, Tamar Bates, and Aidan Shaw all played on the Kansas side of the metro before helping Mizzou make its second NCAA tournament appearance in three years. Mitchell, originally from Kansas City, Kansas, led Mizzou in scoring this season with 14.1 points per game. Bates, also from KCK, averaged 13.4 points per game. Shaw, from Overland Park, came off the bench for the Tigers during the season. For Drake, there are even more metro connections. They are led by Liberty, Missouri, native Bennett Stirtz, who led the team in scoring this season, averaging 19.1 points per game as a junior. Stirtz scored 22 points in an overtime victory over Kansas State at the T-Mobile Center. Kansas City native Cam Manyawu started all 33 games and was a strong presence in the paint, averaging 7.2 points and 5.4 rebounds per game. Tavion Banks, also from Kansas City, averaged 9.9 points and 4.9 rebounds per game.
