The Baltimore Orioles had a great run last season, but the 2025 season will not be the same. The O’s signed several players in the offseason, yet many believe that it was not enough. One of their biggest blunders was failing to retain Corbin Burnes and Anthony Santander.

The O’s had other plans as they opted to part ways with two of their top players from last season. Spring training has not been kind with injuries, and winning the AL East division will be hard. Many think the Yankees have fallen out of the race after missing out on Gerrit Cole.

The O’s have a great chance to win the division title, but MLB insider Buster Olney thinks they cannot. Olney touched upon the team’s struggles and injuries. When asked if the Orioles could win the AL East division, Olney said, “No.”

“Despite the fact that they’re in their window to win, with all these young players having graduated. With Adley Rutschman and Gunnar Henderson established, I think it surprised people that they didn’t do more to bolster their rotation. They left themselves in a fragile state going into spring training. It’s an incredibly thin rotation. Any more injuries, and you wonder if they’re going to be able to make the playoffs,” Onley said in an interview with Michael Kay.

Orioles Will Have A Tough Challenge With The Red Sox In The AL East

The AL East division has always been competitive. With the Yankees gone, the Boston Red Sox have emerged as a threat. The O’s need to focus on making it past the Red Sox. The Blue Jays are not too strong, and the Tampa Bay Rays are not a top contender.

The biggest challenge in the 2025 season will be the Red Sox. Baltimore cannot afford to have another player injured. Henderson needs to stay healthy, and their rotation must kick in without Corbin Burnes.

The Orioles ‘ spring training games were decent, but the regular season matters. If they make the playoffs, they need to focus on beating teams like the Guardians, Royals, Astros, and Rangers. Meanwhile, the Yankees are rumored to be in pursuit of pitchers to take Cole’s place.
