COLUMBIA, S.C. – The No. 14/12 South Carolina softball team (37-13) picked up a win in its final non-conference game of the regular season in run-rule fashion 10-0 over Furman (15-34) in six innings Tuesday night (Apr. 29). Karley Shelton and Arianna Rodi each collected a pair of hits on the night to lead Carolina. Shelton and Audrey Wilson led the team driving in a pair of runs. Furman jumped out to an early lead in the first, scoring two on a double. The Gamecocks responded with a six-run second inning. The scoring got started with the bases loaded for Emily Vinson who reached on a fielder’s choice, allowing Brooke Blankenship to score. Quincee Lilio singled through the left side to tie the game at 2-2. Shelton hit her 17th double of the season to bring home Lilio and Vinson, moving her into a tie for ninth all-time in a season. Arianna Rodi followed it up with her 46th RBI on a single that scored Shelton. That moved her into seventh place in a single season in program history. Blankenship capped the scoring run with a sacrifice fly to right that tied her second all-time with eight on the season and give the Gamecocks the 6-2 lead. In the bottom of the fifth, Shae Anderson singled up the middle to score Abigail Knight and give South Carolina a five-run lead. Audrey Wilson got her first career hit in the sixth when she crushed a two-run home run down the left field line. Nia McKnight followed it up with her first career hit as well, a double to left center. Mya Flindt ended the game with an RBI double that scored McKnight and put the run-rule into effect. Jori Heard (15-2) earned the win for South Carolina in relief, as she didn’t allow a hit or a walk in 2 2-3 innings while striking out four. Nealy Lamb had the start, surrendering two runs and striking out two in three innings. Kadie Becker stepped into the circle to record the final out in the top of the sixth. The Gamecocks close out the regular season at home this weekend with a series against Alabama starting on Thursday at 6 p.m.
