VIRGINIA BEACH — Some of Hampton Roads’ youngest residents have a new place to play.

Sky Zone, a large-scale trampoline park and event space, had its grand opening Saturday near the Ocean Lakes area. Inside, more than 100 children and their families donned orange non-slip socks, called “sky socks,” to participate in activities from indoor dodgeball to tug-of-war and navigating an obstacle course.

Children took turns tumbling into pits of foam blocks while parents watched from the sidelines.

“That’s our most popular attraction,” Adebara Lawrence, one of the operators of the location, said while pointing to the Launch Slide, a 20-foot slide with a ramp at the end. Attendees of all ages used mats to gain speed down the slide before getting airtime and landing onto an inflatable landing zone.

The new venue at 1736 General Booth Boulevard is the third Sky Zone in Hampton Roads — the others are in the Greenbrier area of Chesapeake and the Town Center area of Hampton. Previously, Virginia Beach had a location at the Salem Crossing Shopping Center , but that closed.

Lawrence said the Virginia Beach has seven areas available for birthday parties, and some spaces can accommodate up to 40 guests. Sky Zone also has a concession stand for hungry visitors, serving snacks and entrees throughout the day.

Megan Hoy and her son Kieran, 6, were among the first 100 customers at the grand opening, receiving free jumps for the day after buying a pair of sky socks. Kieran made several leaps off a large platform onto an inflatable floor. Nearby, Neil Causey and son Martin, 3, played on the King-of-the-Hill attraction, a section of balance beams above a pit of foam blocks.

Parents interested in a day at Sky Zone can book a time online. A standard pass, or 90 minutes of jumping, is about $27, and an all-day pass is about $40.
