How Do You Keto?
Diet trends change quicker than the direction of the wind atop of your favorite 14er, but the motivation to lose weight and get in shape is the same, and to that we say Godspeed. The only problem is: that really limits the convenience of eating out -- the destructor of diets, so we're on a bit of a quest to find healthy places to eat and for the Keto-krazy friends of ours, there's no better meal than a Motomaki build-your-own bowl. (We thought you might need a break from chicken caesar salads!)
Okay, for those of you who aren't familiar, the ketogenic diet isn't that crazy. In fact, it's incredibly similar to the low-carb prescriptions we've been following for years, so if you're looking to get back into a diet this might be a good place to start. The only challenge is no bread, no rice, no pasta, no potatoes. The idea is that you want to induce ketosis in your body, or forcing your body to switch its fuel supply from glucose to ketones.
You do this by limiting carbs that are easily turned into glucose and forcing your liver to convert fat into ketones. Experts say you'll have to keep carbs under 50 grams per day. The lower, the better.

That's why the build-your-own plates are about to become your new best friend, because
you control what goes into your meal and you're less inclined to cheat. Now, I know there's no room for rice, but the diet also calls for a lot of protein and what better way to do that than a bed of greens, veggies, and a mountain of protein-rich sushi-grade fish?
So if you're going to go keto, go to Motomaki, order a 'bed' of greens, pile on the fish, and chow down guilt-free. Check out their menu
here.
And as always, consult your doctor before going on a new diet. The keto diet can be extremely dangerous for diabetics and others so it's imperative you consult a health provider.
