From now until August 31, 2020, fourth graders all over the United States can get a free pass to visit any federal lands or waters. Started in 2015, Every Kid Outdoors aims to get kids and their families out to visit national parks by offering free admission for a year. The pass will cover entrance fees but does not include any other activity costs, like camping, boating, fishing, parking, or any special tour. This offer is only good while students are in the fourth grade, so time is limited to utilize this great opportunity.

The Winter Dew Tour, a ski and snowboard competition, has been held in Breckenridge, Colorado, for the last 11 years. This year marks the first move for the Dew Tour—the contract with Breckenridge Ski Resort ended last year. The competition has now partnered with Copper Mountain Resort to host the event for the next two winter seasons. This year’s event is set for February 6–8, 2020. The event is one of the biggest of its kind, plus it's free to the public. The list of athletes invited has yet to be released.

Get ready, Colorado! The first signs of snow for the season are upon us ... Wednesday night’s storm bought hail in parts of the state—golf ball- to lemon-sized hail was reported in Sterling, among other places. Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) also has images of snow near and around Vail Pass that fell overnight into the early morning. Another storm is possibly be going to head to Northern Colorado early next week, which could bring another small bit of snow to the northernmost part of the state, but it is too soon to tell if that system will affect the state or pass us by to the north.
One of the state’s first cold cases to be solved using genetic genealogy has identified a suspect, now deceased. Jeannie Moore, 18, was last seen alive on the morning of August 25, 1981. Through new methods of genealogy and DNA testing, a suspect has been identified as Donald Steven Perea. Perea, a convicted rapist, died in May 2012.

A trailer full of rare and expensive fossils for an exhibit at the Colorado Mineral and Fossil Show was stolen this past weekend. GeoDecor brought a trailer with over $100,000 of fossil specimen to the fall showcase, only to have that trailer stolen on Sunday evening from the Crowne Plaza Convention Center Hotel. The trailer contained 13 fossils, all worth thousands of dollars each.

On Sunday night, a suspected drunk driver drove directly into a crowd of people at A Taste of Colorado. The driver drove through a barrier placed at 14h Avenue and Broadway and struck one pedestrian causing a leg injury. A security guard acted quickly when the driver started to head for the festival, saving a boy and sustaining injuries in the process.
